Cat-Proofing Your Home
· Happy Tails Team
Cats are curious, agile, and remarkably good at finding danger. Before bringing your cat home, do a thorough sweep of each room. Secure loose electrical cords (cats chew and claw them). Remove or relocate toxic houseplants — lilies, pothos, and aloe are all harmful to cats.
Store cleaning products, medications, and small objects in closed cabinets. In the kitchen, ensure the stove is off and the oven is cool before allowing access. Balconies and open windows need secure screens.
Check for small gaps behind appliances where a curious kitten can get stuck. Finally, create vertical space with cat trees or wall shelves — cats feel safer when they can observe their environment from above.
