The First Weeks Together

· Happy Tails Team

The first two weeks are known as the 'two-week shutdown' — a decompression period where your pet adjusts to their new world. Keep things calm, limit visitors, and let them set the pace for interactions.

Consistency in feeding, walks, and bedtime helps build a sense of security faster than anything else. Don't panic if your pet is shy, clingy, or unusually quiet — this is completely normal. Give them a safe place to retreat to and never force interaction.

Trust is built in small moments: a treat from your hand, a calm tone, a patient sit beside them on the floor. By week three, most pets begin to show their real personality.
