Crate Training for Dogs
· Happy Tails Team
A crate done right is a gift, not a prison. Dogs are den animals by nature and a properly introduced crate gives them a secure retreat that's entirely their own.
Start with the door open and let your dog explore it freely, placing treats and meals inside. Never force your dog in or use it as punishment — the goal is a dog who walks in willingly.
Gradually increase the time the door is closed, starting at just a few minutes. Crate training helps with overnight settling, separation anxiety management, and travel. A good rule of thumb: a puppy shouldn't be crated for more hours than their age in months, plus one.
